Setúbal Sports Facilities
Setúbal is one of the few mid-sized Portuguese cities with a complete set of sports facilities: from an international-class football stadium and an Olympic pool to a skatepark and a Class A athletics track. The municipal Sports Development Strategic Plan (PEDDS), approved in 2025, aims to make this infrastructure more accessible to all residents.
Estádio do Bonfim

The stadium has undergone multiple renovations to meet UEFA and Portuguese Football Federation standards. Converting standing terraces to seats and partially closing unsafe upper sections reduced capacity from 30,000 to the current 15,497 seats. Some sources cite capacity around 18,600–18,700, but the official figure is 15,497.
The municipality and the club are exploring the possibility of building a new stadium in the Vale da Rosa area.

Pavilhão Desportivo Municipal das Manteigadas
The city’s main indoor sports venue.

Municipal Swimming Pools
Complexo de Piscinas das Manteigadas
The city’s largest aquatic complex with three pools: children’s, recreational, and a 50-metre Olympic pool. Activities include swimming and canoeing. Facilities: sun loungers, umbrellas, changing rooms, bar.
Piscina das Palmeiras
Indoor pool on Av. Independência das Colónias. Specialises in swimming and aqua aerobics.
Piscina de Azeitão
Pool in Azeitão with an expanded range of activities: swimming, aqua aerobics, hydrotherapy, gymnastics.
Prices (day ticket): adults — €3.55, youth (7–17) and seniors (65+) — €3.10, children under 6 — free (with an adult, maximum two children).
Athletics Complex
Complexo Municipal de Atletismo de Setúbal is located on Estrada Vale da Rosa and is certified by the Portuguese Athletics Federation as a Class A track.

Football Pitches
Beyond the Estádio do Bonfim, the city has several municipal football grounds:
- Complexo Desportivo Municipal da Várzea — two pitches (100 × 64 m)
- Campo Municipal Júlio Adrião — one pitch (90 × 45 m) + two small pitches (38 × 17.65 m)
- Campo Municipal de Jogos das Pedreiras do Viso — dirt pitch
The municipality has renovated several pitches, upgrading surfaces and infrastructure.

Parque Verde da Bela Vista
Municipal outdoor sports complex:

Bacalhôa Garden (Azeitão)
A complex in Azeitão with a children’s playground, senior fitness equipment, walking paths, a skatepark and a street basketball court.
Tennis and Padel

The city has more than 20 tennis courts in total.
Maritime Facilities
Clube Naval Setubalense
Founded 6 May 1920. The main centre for maritime sports: sailing, rowing, swimming, recreational fishing, roller hockey.

Setúbal has more than 78 fitness facilities:
- Fitness Hut Setúbal — the largest gym (600+ m², 7 training zones, 3 group class studios)
- Infante de Sagres Health Club

Activities: boxing, cross-training, dance, fitness, indoor cycling, Pilates, yoga.

Developed by the Centro de Estudos e Desenvolvimento Regional e Urbano (CEDRU), finalized in November 2024.

Funding
In 2024, the municipality allocated ~€165,000 to support 45 sports clubs and associations through the Sports Development Support Matrix.
